The University of Southern Denmark (SDU) was founded in 1966 with the opening of its Odense campus. The university was officially formed in 1998 through a merger of Odense University, the Southern Denmark School of Business & Engineering, and the South Jutland University Centre. In 2006, the Odense University College of Engineering joined SDU, leading to the creation of the Faculty of Engineering. Today, SDU serves over 27,000 students, with about 20% coming from abroad. In terms of global rankings, SDU is positioned at #326 in the QS World University Rankings 2024 and falls within the #251-300 range in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2024. With an acceptance rate of around 35%, SDU is relatively selective in its admissions. The main campus is in Odense, but SDU also has regional campuses in five other cities.
